What to Do If You Have a Dental Emergency
Immediate action can save your smile. Follow these steps while you're on your way to see us.
Immediate Steps for Common Issues
- Severe Toothache: Rinse with warm salt water and gently floss to remove trapped debris. Use a cold compress on your cheek to reduce swelling.
- Broken or Cracked Tooth: Save any pieces. Rinse your mouth and any fragments with warm water. Apply gauze if there is bleeding.
- Lost Filling or Crown: Keep the area clean. If you have the crown, you can temporarily reattach it with dental cement (available at pharmacies) until you reach our office.
- Injury to Soft Tissue: If your tongue, cheeks, or gums are bleeding, rinse with mild salt water and apply firm pressure with a clean piece of gauze.
Urgent: For Knocked-Out Teeth
A knocked-out tooth is a critical emergency. If treated within 30-60 minutes, there is a high chance it can be saved. Handle the tooth by the top (crown) only—never touch the root. Rinse gently with water if dirty; do not scrub or use soap. If possible, try to place the tooth back in its socket and hold it there. If it won't stay, place the tooth in a small container of milk or a tooth preservation kit.

Do I need dental insurance for emergency care?
No. We are a fee-for-service practice and see patients with and without insurance every day. If you have insurance, we'll complete your claim form so you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement. If you don't, you're still welcome — just call us.
Are you open on weekends for dental emergencies?
