Dentistry Has Always Been the Family Business

Dr. Lawson S. Hoover didn't stumble into dentistry — he grew up inside it. His grandfather was a dentist. His father is a dentist practicing in Linville, NC. His uncle is a dentist in Hammond, LA. From an early age, Dr. Hoover watched the people he respected most build their lives and careers around caring for patients' oral health, and he decided to do the same. Originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Dr. Hoover pursued his undergraduate education at Mars Hill University in the mountains of North Carolina, where he graduated at the top of his class. He went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from West Virginia University School of Dentistry — one of the most respected dental programs in the region. After completing his education, Dr. Hoover planted roots in the Appalachian mountains — and has called this region home for over 15 years. His wife, Katie, is from Beckley, West Virginia, and the mountains are not just where they live — they are where they belong. Opening a practice in Johnson City was a natural fit: a community that shares the values of hard work, straightforwardness, and looking out for your neighbors.
